Project Description

OLA is an Erasmus+ project working in the field of democratic landscape transformation, aiming to contribute to the European priorities of participation, local environmental action and the fight against climate change.

The programme involves setting up Living Labs as an interface between universities and local communities within a transdisciplinary context, alongside the launch of the Open Landscape Academy: an openly accessible online learning network connecting community activism and academic knowledge with public engagement practices.

Within the project, CIFLA runs a Romagna Living Lab, an open innovation ecosystem designed to transfer the project’s content and tools to the Romagna community through open knowledge and community-based design approaches. The overall aim is to share a genuine democratic culture of participatory design.

Objectives

OLA has three main objectives:

  • Contributing to the priority of “Common values, civic engagement and participation” through the training of qualified personnel in democratic landscape transformation. These individuals will act as multipliers, extending these skills to others
  • Contributing to participation, local environmental action and the fight against climate change by addressing these themes and their systemic context within local Living Labs
  • Promoting interconnected higher education systems by developing OLA – The Open Landscape Academy

Project Implementation

  • Creating Living Labs that act as an interface between universities and their local communities. Delivering learning activities within this transdisciplinary context, partly through blended Erasmus intensive programmes
  • Developing multilingual teaching materials and facilitation guides for democratic landscape transformation, and delivering training activities aimed at multipliers
  • Developing the Open Landscape Academy as an open learning platform, including two transnational pilot courses

Expected Results

  • An Open Landscape Academy established as a transnational platform for advancing knowledge in democratic landscape transformation
  • A community of practice with advanced knowledge of methods and approaches to democratic landscape transformation
  • A series of multilingual teaching and training materials
  • Local landscape democracy laboratories at all participating university sites
